As a Sr. Systems Administrator...

  • Your main responsibility will be the maintenance and administration of a high availability environment.
  • You will provide leadership in transitioning technical operations from traditional administration and deployment management to infrastructure, demonstrating automation and configuration management technologies.
  • You will maintain the technical security posture of computers in a mixed operating system environment based upon information security requirements and data classifications.
  • You will engineer, architect, and operate high performance computing infrastructure facilitating generative Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and other scientific research.
  • You will engage with a group of collaborators including other System Administrators, Information Assurance officers, researchers, and project leadership to deliver mission critical solutions.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of sophisticated management of Linux system administration and engineering, including Red Hat and Ubuntu
  • 10+ years of demonstrable experience with Enterprise virtualization infrastructure such VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox or similar platforms
  • Are skilled in organization and effective communication with managers and technical staff
  • Experience directly supporting the Department of Defense or other U.S. government entities
  • Advanced technical skills and experience in networking technologies and protocols (ex. FTP, SSH, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, syslog)
  • Ability to work in a close-knit, small technical team
  • Ability to plan substantial, long-term projects and rapidly respond to changing requirements and priorities.
  • Have a current DoD 8570 certification (Security+ or CISSP), or ability to obtain DoD 8570 certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Red Hat administration certifications (RHCSA, RHCE etc)
  • Experience with HPC management tools such as Slurm, Bright Cluster, Run.ai or similar applications
  • Skills with Puppet, Ansible, Salt, bash scripting, python or other automation tools
  • Have developed real-time dashboards using Splunk for data visualization and infrastructure monitoring.
  • Previous experience supporting Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning research and infrastructure
  • Experience supporting Windows clients, servers, and Active Directory
  • Experience managing data center faciltiies and server hardware

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
